Rhaenyra Targaryen Outfit Season 3
Rhaenyra Targaryen is the central figure of House of the Dragon and her Season 3 costume reflects the full weight of her position as the Dragon Queen fighting for her throne. Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra leans heavily into textured black as her dominant base, with crimson accents running through her armor and robes as a deliberate signal of Targaryen blood and royal legitimacy.
Her costumes in Season 3 include intricate Targaryen scale-work armor that is battlefield-ready from Episode 1, structured regal mourning gowns that communicate grief without sacrificing authority, and flowing black robes that shift between court formality and wartime urgency. The black and crimson palette is consistent across every scene Rhaenyra does not wear color outside the Targaryen canon in Season 3. Her silhouette is commanding, regal, and increasingly battle-worn as the Dance of the Dragons escalates through the 8 episodes.

Daemon Targaryen Jacket Season 3
Daemon Targaryen remains the most visually distinctive figure in House of the Dragon’s wardrobe across all three seasons. Matt Smith’s Rogue Prince aesthetic has always prioritized dark leather with minimal ornamentation built for warfare and intimidation rather than court ceremony and Season 3 takes this to its logical conclusion as Daemon rides Caraxes into the most brutal battles of the civil war.
In Season 3, Daemon is seen in seasoned full combat armor for the Battle of the Gullet and subsequent engagements, as well as his signature Rogue Prince leather silhouette during the political and personal scenes at Harrenhal and Dragonstone. The combat leathers are dark and form-fitted, constructed for a man who is simultaneously a prince, a dragonrider, and a trained killer. Every piece communicates the same message: Daemon Targaryen is the most dangerous man in Westeros.

Aegon II Targaryen Outfit Season 3
Aegon II Targaryen is the self-proclaimed king of Westeros and his Season 3 costume reflects a man who inherited a throne he never wanted and wears its trappings with chaotic opulence. Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon is dressed in rich gold Targaryen robes with red accents and feathered details throughout the season pageantry over precision, decadence over discipline.
The feathered, gold-heavy aesthetic communicates everything the audience needs to know about Aegon II: he is a king who prioritizes appearance over governance, whose instability is encoded in the very fabric of what he wears. His robes are deliberately disheveled in texture and layering compared to the militaristic precision of Aemond’s costume or the controlled authority of Alicent’s green. Aegon wears his dysfunction openly.

Aegon II Targaryen’s Season 3 wardrobe features black royal robes, gold chain detailing, Targaryen embroidery, and a ceremonial king’s crown.
Alicent Hightower and Team Green Costumes Season 3
Alicent Hightower is the ideological and aesthetic center of Team Green, and Olivia Cooke’s Season 3 costumes reflect the Queen Dowager’s complex position as the most powerful woman in King’s Landing who no longer holds a formal title. Alicent’s palette in Season 3 is deep Hightower green the color of House Hightower and the visual signal of the Green faction delivered through rich velvets, structured gowns, and ecclesiastical tailoring that draws on the religious influence of the Faith of the Seven.
The seven-pointed star motif, the symbol of the Faith of the Seven, is worked into Alicent’s embroidery throughout the season, communicating her genuine religious devotion alongside her political positioning. Her silhouettes are formal, structured, and deliberately severe the costume of a woman who has decided that order and religion are the only reliable forces in a world of fire and chaos.
Aemond Targaryen, played by Ewan Mitchell, is Team Green’s most formidable military presence and his Season 3 armor reflects this. His costume combines emerald and black militaristic armor with the same seven-pointed star religious motifs that run through Alicent’s wardrobe, creating a visual family cohesion across Team Green. The one-eyed prince’s silhouette is sharp, disciplined, and immediately threatening armor built to ride the largest living dragon, Vhagar, into battle.

Alicent Hightower’s green royal gowns and Aemond Targaryen’s military armor define the distinctive Team Green aesthetic in House of the Dragon Season 3.

Targaryen Family Tree Explained
The Targaryen civil war depicted in House of the Dragon Season 3 is only comprehensible with a working knowledge of who the characters are to each other. The Targaryen dynasty was founded by Aegon the Conqueror, known as Aegon I Targaryen, who originated from the dragonlord civilization of Old Valyria in Essos. When Old Valyria was destroyed in the event known as the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryens survived by retreating to Dragonstone. From there, Aegon I launched the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, establishing the Targaryen dynasty as the ruling house of the Iron Throne.
In Season 3, both Rhaenyra Targaryen and Aegon II Targaryen are children of King Viserys I Targaryen by different mothers. Rhaenyra was Viserys’s daughter by his first wife, Aemma Arryn, and was formally named his heir. Aegon II was Viserys’s son by his second wife, Alicent Hightower. This makes the Dance of the Dragons a civil war between two legitimate children of the same king rather than a straightforward usurpation. Daemon Targaryen is Viserys I’s brother, making him Rhaenyra’s uncle and, following Targaryen tradition of intermarriage, her husband.
Rhaenyra Targaryen is a direct ancestor of Daenerys Targaryen, who appears in Game of Thrones approximately 170 years after the events of Season 3. The surviving Targaryen bloodline from the Dance of the Dragons eventually produces the lineage that leads to Daenerys. Jon Snow, revealed in Game of Thrones to be the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, is also a descendant of the Season 3 characters his true name is Aegon Targaryen, connecting him directly to the Targaryen bloodline depicted in House of the Dragon.

A visual guide to the Targaryen family tree explaining the relationships between Viserys I, Rhaenyra, Aegon II, Daemon, Alicent, Daenerys, and Jon Snow across generations.
